How It Began

From the Iron Range
to the World

Growing up in Duluth, Minnesota — a city where Norwegian and Swedish surnames outnumber nearly any other — brothers Erik and Lars Andersen absorbed Norse mythology the same way other kids absorbed baseball stats. Their grandfather, a third-generation Norwegian-American blacksmith from the Iron Range, kept a battered copy of the Elder Eddas on his workbench. Thor wasn't a Marvel character. He was family.

When Erik trained as a silversmith in Minneapolis after studying Scandinavian cultural history at the University of Minnesota, and Lars joined him after a decade working with Duluth-area artisan metalworkers, the idea wasn't to build a business. It was to make one pendant worthy of what the symbol actually means — the kind of Mjolnir their grandfather would have worn without embarrassment.

We didn't grow up with Thor as a superhero. We grew up with Thor as a protector. That's a completely different relationship with the hammer.

— Erik Andersen, Co-Founder

That first pendant — hand-cast in solid 925 sterling silver in Erik's Minneapolis studio, based on an archaeological find from a Viking-age burial in Skåne — sold out within a week of being listed online. The Norse community recognized immediately that something different had arrived. Mjolnir Pendant was born.

Scandinavian America

Why Minnesota
Matters to This Story

Minnesota is home to more people of Scandinavian ancestry than any other state in the US. This isn't where we chose to build — it's where the tradition chose us.

What We Stand For

The Norse Code
We Live By

The values that guided Viking society guide everything we make.

I áš

Authenticity

Every design traces to a historical source. We research archaeological finds, runology, and Norse art history before we make a single casting decision. No fantasy embellishments, no invented mythology.

II áš±

Craftsmanship

Every pendant passes through human hands at every stage. The weight, texture, and finish of a truly hand-forged piece is unmistakable. We refuse to let automation replace that standard.

III ᛏ

Honour

We treat the mythology, our customers, and our craft with equal respect. Honest materials, honest pricing, and a lifetime guarantee behind every piece we send into the world.

IV ᛊ

Community

We actively support Norse heritage organisations, Scandinavian cultural societies in Minnesota and nationwide, and the global community keeping these traditions alive and meaningful.

The Making

How Each
Hammer Comes to Life

Research

Historical Study & Design

Every new piece begins in our archive of Scandinavian archaeological records and the University of Minnesota's Scandinavian collection. If a design element has no historical grounding, it doesn't appear on our pendants.

Materials

Metal Selection & Certification

We source only certified 925 sterling silver, genuine 18k gold plating solutions, and lead-free bronze. Each batch is tested before entering the studio. Our pendants are solid, never hollow.

Casting

Hand Casting & Forging

Using lost-wax casting and direct metalsmithing, our artisans shape each piece by hand in our Minneapolis studio. A single complex pendant can take several hours of forging, annealing, and forming.

Engraving

Rune Engraving & Detailing

Where Elder Futhark runes appear, our engravers work by hand with fine-point tools. A single runic inscription can take over two hours to complete to our standard. Every rune translates to something real.

Finishing

Polishing, Quality & Dispatch

Every piece passes Erik or Lars's personal inspection before leaving Minneapolis. It's packed in a hand-stamped wooden gift box and shipped worldwide. Only pieces that meet the founding standard carry our maker's mark.
